It would probably work really well if they used the Nolan verse (and tried to create a DC universe). But now I think they are going to try and create a DC universe using the new Superman movie? And I am not sure how compatible that verse is with the Nolan one.

DC, get your shit together!

They could take two separate tracks: Nolanverse Catwoman Standalone Prequel and Everything Else in some other movie series - like how The Avengers and its related movies do not cross over with the Spiderman or X-Men franchises - but I guess we have to wait and see whether they are going to use any of the Nolanverse in other movies.

Well, I think Marvel would LOVE to get Spiderman and X-Men into the MCU (esp Spiderman). But until they get them back from whatever studios have them, they are SOL.

Wasn't that what 'The Amazing Spider-man' was all about? They rebooted it so that they can have Spider-man show up in Avengers films?

My first thoughts were this. It's because of Nolan that the new Catwoman was so good. Hathaway can pull the character off for sure too, but, someone out there will make a horrible script and make the movie just.. wrong.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-18 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
This. My problem with the Catwoman movie wasn't Halle Berry, but the fact that it was a stupid movie. As much as I like her, it wouldn't be enough just to stick Hathaway in a catsuit and say "Go!"

(Anonymous) 2013-08-18 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I would actually be all over that. She was one of the highlights of TDKR, definitely.

If they used When In Rome and elements of Catwoman volume 3 as a basis it could theoretically be very good.

It might also be a good way to introduce Black Mask to the Nolanverse. He was always something of a troublesome villain for Batman, but he disappeared for a while only to come back more murderous and evil than ever as a Catwoman villain.

I'd like that!

I enjoyed Anne Hathaway's performance in TDKR. She was one of the hightlights for me. Of course, there is always the possiblility that Anne will be awesome, but the script sucks balls. It's a shame that I'd really think that would happen, if the right people (women and awesome males who write women well) don't get a hold of it. Hollywood doesn't inspire much faith in me.

The reason that movie failed was because it was about a woman who gets given magical cat powers. I don't understand how they thought that'd be a good idea, especially since Catwoman is a thief, not a magical cat crime fighter.

Well, there's maaaaany reasons why that movie failed (ohgod the basketball scene) but that was one of the things that really turned people off right off the bat, yeah.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-18 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd like a Catwoman movie, but not with Anne Hathaway. She was kind of weak in comparison to the ones before her. (I'm thinking Pfieffer and the 3 from the 60s Batman series.) Definitely prefer someone else.

Are you me? I thought I was one of the few who liked her.

NGL, I would be all over that. I loved Hathaway as Selina and even if her part was pretty small she was the best thing about TDKR for me. I don't really see this movie happening, which is a shame because I think it could be great if the script was decent and the studio wanted to go there, but I'd def pay to see it!

I want a Wonder Woman movie too, though. But I would certainly take a Catwoman Origins story first, and with much delight.

[Picture is the actress Anne Hathaway as Catwoman from the movie "The Dark Night Rises". She is a woman with pale skin, long dark brown hair reaching her chest and wearing a latex-type skin-tight black full-body suit, with a black partial mask covering her eyes. She has bright red lips. She is standing in front of the railway on the outside of a building in a big city at night. She is standing upright and looking serious.]

I want a Catwoman movie before a Wonder Woman one. The first Catwoman adaptation bombed but with the success of The Dark Knight Rises, I think it could be the opportunity for a new movie about the origin of Catwoman, with Hathaway.

And if it's good, it would prove to the studios that a superhero movie with a female lead works.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-18 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Catwoman but I feel like her audience is pretty limited, I really think DC has a better chance with Wonder Woman (as long as it's done right.) And really if they want to go the Justice League route, their energy is better spent on Wonder Woman.

I don't trust DC right now though, they are constantly going back and forth with their projects and you could feel the desperation after Avengers did so well (which is also funny because Avengers did well with a director that DC fired off Wonder Woman.)

(Anonymous) 2013-08-18 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah to hell with her, I want a Power Girl and Huntress movie first. Much more interesting. Or if we must have a villain movie, lets have Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn. Catwoman is just boring.

But no Nolan-gritty crap. Lets have primary colours and people capable of smiling. His movies have been so miserable they almost make the Eastenders Christmas Special look like a sitcom.

No. I don't want any more Nolanverse. Ever.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-18 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"What's that," says Hollywood, "You want more? Okay! We can give you more!"

'Cause you know it's going to happen with how popular the Dark Knight trilogy was.

I'm right there with you.

[personal profile] blunderbuss 2013-08-19 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. The Nolanverse is great by itself, but I don't want it to be the tone for all future DC movies. It is, ironically, TOO grim and gritty for the Batman comics because it strived for realism, and there's actually very few Batman rogues who could work in that universe.

And because I actually WANT to see Poison Ivy and Mister Freeze.

I prefer villains so I agree

If they fix that totally bullshit hairstyle, sure.

Except that Hathaway is the worst.
