Oldschool TV ships?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-18 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
What are some of your favorite couples (canon or not) from really old TV? Like, shows from the '70s and before? Even black-and-white stuff? When did you watch those shows and why do you ship those couples? I'm curious after that "old movies" secret a couple days ago.

Lucy and Ricky. Roseanne and Dan (which I know is after the 70s). Those two are my favorite TV couples period.

Starsky/Hutch
Kirk/Spock
Scotty/Uhura (more from the movies than TOS)
elaminator: (Star Trek: TOS - Kirk/Spock (Shore Leave)

I like your taste, anon.

I shipped Gopher and Isaac from Love Boat when I was a kid. For the longest time I thought they were a couple.

Frank/Luke (How The West Was Won)
Jack/David (The Incredible Hulk)
Varian/Fred (The Fantastic Journey)

Samantha/Freedom (Bewitched)

I like the way you think!

Those kinds of shows - the power fantasy where the average husband has a magical wife who does his bidding - creep me out big time. Ughhhhh.

:D Yeah, Darren never once respected Samantha. He just wanted her to give up magic and control her. He was a shitty ass husband.

Maxwell Smart/Agent 99 from Get Smart, because they are adorable.

Rocky/Bullwinkle, because they lived together and I decided this meant they were in love (I was a little kid and didn't understand the concept of roommates).

Captain Kirk/every other regular character, as well as several characters who only appeared in one episode, because he has chemistry with everyone.

And when I started watching M*A*S*H I somehow ended up hate-shipping Hawkeye with Frank Burns. I have no idea why.

Me too! When I started watching re-runs of that show, I had no idea if they'd end up canon, and I was so gleefully happy when they did!

Mary Tyler Moore/Rhoda Morgenstern
Laverne/Shirley
Captain Pike/Number One
Kirk/Spock (but mostly 'cause their portmanteau couple name is either Spirk or Kock, and I'm incredibly immature like that)
Gomez/Morticia
elaminator: (Star Trek: Search for Spock - Spock/Kirk)

Captain Pike/Number One

Yes!

but mostly 'cause their portmanteau couple name is either Spirk or Kock, and I'm incredibly immature like that

There is always someone on tumblr complaining about the fact that the ship name isn't kock. Always. lol. I actually quite like Spirk, especially since Pine and Quinto had their "Spirk it out!" moment. (Actually it might've been spork it out. Hmm...)

I am sad that no one uses "spork" apparently.

It is a terrible, terrible waste. It would've been an adorable ship name.

Captain Pike/Number One

Hot.

Oh man my #1 nonexistant ship is Rose/Sarah from the original Upstairs Downstairs. Or Rose/Elizabeth. *hides* And Richard/Hazel, but I think everyone agrees that Richard was better for her than James!

Both of my Pallisers ships are the main canon ones- Glencora/Plantagenet for the development over time, and Madame Max/Phineas Finn for the chemistry of the characters/actors.

And McCoy/Everyone for TOS.

Captain Pike/Number One and Kirk/Spock (Star Trek)

Lucy/Ricky and Lucy/Ethel (I Love Lucy) The latter more for the fic potential than anything, actually.

Barney/Thelma Lou (Andy Griffith) (I still sometimes get mad when I think about how they didn't get married when he left, tbh)

Ralph/Alice (The Honeymooners)

Starsky/Hutch

Anthony Nelson/Jeannie

Richie/Fonzie (mainly earlier on, when the Fonz was more of a loner and not the center of attention)

I mostly like Buddy and Sally (Dick Van Dyke) as platonic bffs, but sometimes I get a big kick thinking about the potential for not-allowed-in-'60s-TV romantic storylines with them too...

On another note, one of my very few hateships ever is Samantha/Darrin #2. I liked Samantha/Darrin #1, but Darrin #2 was a nope.

Uh, that was me btw. Somehow went anon by accident?

Also, forgot a couple:

Maxwell Smart/Agent 99

Hawkeye/Trapper and Hawkeye/Margaret (M*A*S*H) (I could never get behind Hawkeye/BJ due the the importance of fidelity to BJ's characterization)

Everyone's talking about the new Star Trek (or the original), but I just started watching Next Generation, and I totally ship Data/Tasha.

Most recently, I've shipped C.K. Dexter Haven (Cary Grant)/Macaulay Connor (Jimmy Stewart) from Philadelphia Story and Maj. Matt Lewis (Charlton Heston)/Sir Arthur Robertson (David Niven) from 55 Days at Peking. If anyone has any knowledge of any sort of fic for either of these movies, I'll forever be in debt to you.

I wish sooooo much there was fic for Heston and Niven's characters in that movie!! Those guys had fantastic chemistry!

I also think it's criminal that there's no fic for Neferteri/Heston!Moses from The Ten Commandments.
