Actually, I think putting in a 'Never Die' option could be a step in the direction of 'video games as (fine)art'. Although, it may be less of a game and more of an interactive animation...Who knows? There are games where you don't 'die' or 'lose'.

The game Journey is like that - there's no combat, you don't die, and it's much less about "winning" anything than about exploration and bonding with your anonymous player companions along the way. It's an absolutely beautiful and moving game, fine art if I've ever seen it.

AYRT I just looked it up, and I KNEW there was a game I wanted to namedrop as an example! Personally, I was never able to play it, but I recently got a PS3 (little Bday gift I bought for myself). I'm definitely going to buy it know that I remember it. Thanks! :)

You might want to take a peek at Kentucky Route Zero if you like that sort of game.
