Maybe I'm just ADD, but I can't stick with a fandom for longer than two or three years. It just gets boring and repetitive and the quality of the art invariably declines and it doesn't excite me the way it did at first, so. I'll always have a place of love in my heart for my ex-fandoms, but I never revisit them. Done is done. I cannot imagine being in a fandom forever, whatever that might mean.

Two or three years is looooooooooong!

I stay in a fandom more or less for only one year. The only fandoms so far that have held me longer than a year were both huge pan-fandoms with multiple sub-canons.

I am hoping the release of the next two movies keeps me in the Hobbit fandom for a couple more years.

I think it really depends on the person. For me, once I actually get into a fandom enough to do more than maybe search out a few fics, I tend to stick around for 2-3 years on average.
