I'm not sure it IS a slur...

Is it even really a slur? I've spent oodles of time researching, and everything that comes up is that "some members of the group consider it a slur, but others don't".

And the reason those members consider it a slur is not the word itself, but because the word gypped was DERIVED from it. So the offensive term doesn't seem to be gypsy, but gyp.

Which seems rather like the fact that Jew is not an offensive word by any means, but in its verb form (albeit not used very often) it very much is.

Confused...
