I moved on from what used to be my dream fandom because the fan base changed, and with it, the character of the fandom. The older fans left and a generation of newbies arrived. They're not especially interested in canon, its memorable characters, or the wonderfully evocative storylines. They only want to talk about the juggernaut pairing, and to write and draw them in 2 flavors: fluff and whump.

I adore the source as much as I ever did. It's the current fans' interpretation of it that leaves me cold. Of course they're entitled to enjoy canon on their own terms, I don't dispute that. I just find that I don't enjoy canon as seen through their eyes.
