There are two different things - moving one from fandom to another, or moving on from fandom itself.

I switch fandoms usually because one canon stops being active, so the fandom slows down, or the fandom starts pissing me off, but I usually still follow the canon (provided it's still good and interesting to me). If the canon has ended, I may dip back into it, rewatch/re-read and still enjoy it, even if I'm actively involved in a new fandom. If a friend starts up a discussion on the old fandom, I'm totally game to discuss it, though - I usually don't completely lose interest in it.

I assume I will at some point "move on" from fandom itself. It's happened to the extent that I no longer consume or write fanfiction. It's nothing against fanfiction, I used to love it for about 10 years of my fannish existence, but it's not my thing anymore and I don't need it to enjoy fandom. I just like stuff, discuss it and maybe make the occasional fandom-related graphic but I don't write or create much in fandom anymore. Doesn't mean I don't like stuff the same, I still adore things and get fannish and squeeful and all those good things. I've just begun expressing it differently.
