Funny you should mention Rope. I've been meaning to watch it. Same with The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.

I wish old movies had fandoms instead of a bunch of pseudo-elitist old people talking about their impact on society. :-/ I want The Philadelphia Story shipping wars and the like.

Oh god, do watch Rope... a lot of people find it dry and boring, but if you can appreciate the whole long-shot gimmick, the gay subtext that is nearly text, and the crime that inspired the stage play (that inspired the film that inspired later homoerotic killer team movies including Murder By Numbers)... well. It's a nicely layered little movie. I like it. (See also, The Lodger, for more Hitchcock goodness. If you haven't already, I mean.)

And I would adore fandoms for old movies. They'd be completely hilarious... I do try to imagine who would end up shipped in most of the old movies I like. It's so much more fun than most of the analysis... though there is some fun analysis to be had, I will admit.
