Not exactly. One can enjoy the story and just have their own fanon that the couple breaks up at some point in the future or something. Shipping means liking it, and not everybody likes every aspect of even their favourite canon.

'Cause I totally hate the treatment of the canon pairing in my favourite show. Oddly enough, I like it in quite a few fanfictions/peices of art, but it's not the same.
