SPOILERS

Unless you're a fan of Raleigh and Mako, though, you don't have much to work with if you want to talk about the Drift, piloting, and all that. Considering all the other possible pilots died (or weren't very interesting) I'm not surprised people turn to fusions to explore the concept.

I suppose you could always look at the prequel possibilities, though. Raleigh and Yancy first getting started with Gipsy Danger, Mako in the simulators or exploring more in-depth her backstory with Stacker, not to mention the other pilots (I respectfully disagree with you that they weren't very interesting), Gottlieb and Newt and how they first met...so on and so forth.

Now, to be fair, I've not read the additional materials/novel so I have no idea if this sort of thing has already been touched on. If it has, I'll take it all back and see myself to the corner.

I've also seen fix-it fic for the Kaidanovskys, and I wouldn't be surprised if some fix-its had cropped up for Pentecost and Chuck Hansen. There's all sorts of stuff writers can do.

There's an accepted fix-it for Chuck, basically being that Pentecost shoved him in the escape pod and magically he got out of the blast/fighting zone (unconscious, usually) fast enough.

And by "accepted" I mean that on the kink meme the shorthand for it is more or less "escape pod ending."

Pentecost is trickier to figure out, because of the radiation poisoning, so everyone uses their favorite resurrection method with him.

IGOR, pull the lever!!!

That was actually a Skrull imposter.
