(Anonymous) 2013-08-20 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)I think this is a terminology problem
"Crossover" would be the Pacific Rim characters and setting interacting with and within another fandom's setting, or characters. That's an entirely different thing from a Pacific Rim AU, or a Jaeger AU, in which the characters of another fandom are Jaeger pilots or living in the Pacific Rim universe.
A LOT of people are labelling their Pacific Rim AUs as crossovers, and I can definitely see why someone would be pissed off about this.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 12:02 am (UTC)(link)I am weird and pedantic / neurotic about crossovers I guess. There are very strict rules (in my head, that I made up, that no one else follows)

It pisses me off that so many 'crossover' fics for this fandom are 'Fusion Alternate Universes' starring characters from other fandoms as Jaeger pilots. I wanna read about these awesome motherfuckers and their sexy robots rocking the shit out of other universes.

I'm not sure how the AU's would work the other way around, especially with the robots too(and now all that's going through my head atm is GD stomping around Middle-Earth squishing orcs).

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 01:03 am (UTC)(link)Unless you're a fan of Raleigh and Mako, though, you don't have much to work with if you want to talk about the Drift, piloting, and all that. Considering all the other possible pilots died (or weren't very interesting) I'm not surprised people turn to fusions to explore the concept.
