[Arrested Development]

Who in the what now? I loved the first three seasons, but I got so turned of by the ramping up of all the Tobias' sexuality jokes that I couldn't finish season 4. Now that they've moved on to making Tobias look like an accidental pedo, and, last I saw, teased Transexual George, have they transferred the not-so-secretly-gay plots over to GOB?

This is making me glad I stopped watching.

if you saw the first episode of season 4 (where gob explains that he tried to trick a man into falling in love with him, then accidentally fell in love with the man himself) then you have the basic gist of the storyline.

there's a later episode that shows how gob fell in love, then the narrator calls it friendship, but it is implied gob really has fallen in love. it's kind of cute, really. but since it was all explained in a single episode, we don't know yet if it was just a throw-away gag, or something that will last.

It isn't "not-so-secretly-gay" so much as "he's blatantly bi and had sex with a man" lol

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
And then began a cycle of self-roofie-ing that only ended when he couldn't buy more drugs to forget it ever happened. Hilars.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, the roofie circle happened before Gob had sex with Tony.

Though he did roofie Michael into forgetting he saw Tony in the house, so...there's that. :/

If GOB and Tony's relationship is ignored or treated as a joke in the next season, I'll be pissed off too!

It's a comedy, so it probably will be treated as a joke (or roofie-circled into non-existence).

Sad, but probably true. :(

And that's a shame because it was nice seeing Gob make friends (partners?) with someone who seemed to genuinely enjoy being around him. But since the Bluths aren't particularly known for their strong relationships, I doubt Gob/Tony will last.

I really hope it isn't. :/

GOB and Tony had great chemistry and to see GOB connect with someone is nice to see. It would be great to see a gay relationship in AD that's not treated as a joke, but instead has lots of funny relationship drama in it.

Also Tony phoned GOB at the end, so SOMETHING needs to come of it.

I can see GOB avoiding Tony for a bit as he becomes the Bluth's companies boss, but he gets drawn back to Tony and family drama unfolds in hilarious and awakward ways.

I hope it's treated as a joke, because that's the show. That said, I hope the joke isn't "lol gay people", because I know they can do better than that, and there is a lot of room for comedy in that relationship that isn't all about GOB's orientation.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-22 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
The joke of their relationship in season 4, as I saw it, was essentially that they're both so dishonest, and via such unnecessarily convoluted schemes, that it's covering up that they're both also lying to themselves about who they are and what they want. Which incidentally leads to gay sex in disguises for reasons that no longer make any semblance of sense. Hey, works for me.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-22 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah this. The joke is the dumbass orouboros of deceit that Gon and Tonu have gotten themselves into. They're not going to do a relationship involving Gob that doesn't end hilariously because of the Bluths being a black pit of narcissism.

Same anon

Sorry, I should have clarified. I do agree that it should be treated jokingly because of the show's genre, but yeah if the joke ends up being "lol gay people!" or even "lol they both take roofies to forget each other and revert back to rivals" then I'll be disappointed.

[Picture is George Oscar Bluth Jr., better known as G.O.B., from the TV/Internet show "Arrested Development". He has light rosy skin and short dark brown hair. He has gray eyes?. He is smiling with a clip-on microphone next to his mouth. He is wearing what looks like some sort of white shirt and brown leather straps over his shoulders.]

If they ignore the "Is he gay?" plot in the next season or the movie, I'm gonna be pissed!

(Anonymous) 2013-08-22 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
If they ignore the possibility of him being bi, I'm gonna be pissed.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-22 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
thank you!

i hate that fans are ignoring the fact that he has been in relationships with women in the past. he might not have loved them, but the attraction was still there, and it makes me sad that people are so willing to erase a character's (canon?) bisexuality.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-22 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently Michael Hurwitz has either said or hinted that it won't be ignored (or just a throw-away piece of queerbaiting, either).
