That doesn't mean you can't enjoy and be inspired by her music

Yes, it does. If you are inspired by a sexist ableist shit, then you are being inspired to be a terrible person.

I still enjoy her music, and as a person with a disability, I think I have every right to decide whether or not I can do that regardless of her problematic attitudes toward people like me, tyvm.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Rock on, anon!

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
So you get to choose for everyone else? Sounds like you're disability came with a superpower.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
IT'S YOUR

NOT YOU'RE

YOUR

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
You're right. I made a typo, so clearly I'm wrong to call you out on your idiocy

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Not the same anon.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-22 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
You're wrong for being an idiot, not for your typo.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-23 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I like the part where you never replied to the actual anon you were trolling. Can't argue against a good point, I guess.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I said that I have a right to decide whether or not I can do that. Tell me what was unclear about that.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
They're only speaking for themselves ffs, reading comprehension fail.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
NAYRT
Pretty hypocritical of you to say so, seeing as you're doing the same thing. Just drop it, no one's going to win this pointless argument.

Please learn to read, anon. The person you responded to said:

"I still enjoy her music, and as a person with a disability, I think I have every right to decide whether or not I can do that regardless of her problematic attitudes toward people like me, tyvm."

In case you're having trouble parsing that, it means they're choosing FOR THEMSELF, not for everyone else.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-22 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. It means they get to tell you that you don't get to choose for everyone else. That's a pretty normal-power.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-22 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
No, all anon said was that anon could make decision for anon-self. Other people's pleasure or lack of pleasure means nothing about your personal decisions.

If you are inspired by a sexist ableist shit, then you are being inspired to be a terrible person.

Well, gosh, I think I should burn all my DVDs, because pretty much most people us fans put on a pedestal are pretty problematic. With some inspirational, good stuff too. Most people have sexist and so forth traits, this doesn't make them unredeemable monsters. It's whether it's so overwhelming that the inspirational creative stuff is drowned. Polanski? Ick, no. Palmer? Pretty damn mild in the scheme of things, it's just that she promotes herself as being better than that, so that her faults are played up so much more by those disappointed in her. But compared to most people that fans less controversially claim inspiration from, she really ain't that bad, shiiiit.

What matters is what WE become.

I try to keep in mind that actions and ideas are problematic, people are complicated.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-22 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Oh wow , congrats anon...you just called out someone on the horrible crime of enjoying a thing for themselves.

Go forth and feel better about yourself knowing you are clearly the better person. Totally. You've done your good deed by telling someone that they're a horrible person for enjoying music.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-22 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
That's not how art works. That's not how... ANYTHING works. Good god, you're an embarrassment.
