SPOILERS for last season of Glee.

[personal profile] kallanda_lee 2013-08-23 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
The did flip-flop, but in the latest few episodes, with Unique pretending to be that other girl with the catfish thing, it seemed to me they were pretty much going for the genuinely transgender thing, and wanting to be accepted as a girl. Also there was that one-liner about her popping birth control pills to get breasts.

ayrt

I dropped Glee after the first episode of season 4 (not really because of the Unique thing, but because of...everything else) so that's nice to here. I kind of assumed they wouldn't really progress with her storyline much because it's, well, Glee but I'm impressed that they did. Glee, I take back some of the horrible things I've said about you. Some of them.

I know just saying you like Glee is blasphemy here, but I think season 4 might be the best one yet. Sure it still has some of the typical Glee problem, but I feel like they sort of matured a little bit as a show.

Do you really think so? If that's the case, then I might give season 4 another chance when it comes out on netflix. Maybe the show got its second wind or something. I felt that way about Grey's Anatomy (I know, I know, it's grey's anatomy. But I can't help it. It got interesting again after the shooting. And then after the plane crash. God that sounds ridiculous).

I don't know.

It seems like omany people hated season 4, too. So it's highly subjective. I also sort of look at it from the pov of film student, and there's a few technical things I feel improved, too (like editing). I liked the whole NY thing because it took people out of that high school setting. It felt nice that there was more than just sectionals or nationals to look forward to all over again. And I do feel like the matured the "old garde" up a bit.

But as I said, it still has Glee problems. Mostly things that seem to happen for no other reason than that the plot du jour demands it.

I don't want to sucker you into watching something you might not like, but I thought it was a significant improvement over season 3 (which is my least favorite one).

How is it better? I'm genuinely curious; I stopped watching after the Season Three finale from hell, but I'm considering picking it up again.

I personally feel (and this is subjective) it does better both technically & in making the characters more like real people. Also the New York thing makes them break out of some of their old tropes.I feel like it's generally just a better quality show (perhaps too little, too late for some, though). Though as I said, some people HATED season 4.

And I feel like they did some things right like SPOILERS setting Marley up more like a songwriter than another Rachel clone, postponing Emma and Will's wedding for the right reasons, making Sue more human and less of a caricature, and some episodes that actually focus on friendship and not dating mayhem.

They've been humanizing Sue since the first season.
