I really hate the Cecil-has-a-third-eye thing.

If Cecil is anything other than a normal human in very strange circumstances, it weakens both the horror and the comedy of the the setup. This seems obvious to me.

Some people attribute the character's seeming-omniscience about the town to some form of extra-sensory abilities. Third eye is a pretty easy way to visualize that, I guess.

Yeeeah. The thing is, Cecil *isn't* 'omniscience' to begin with. He's always talking about how interns are handing/telling/otherwise communicating information about stories to him, or how x-organization called in requesting [or "requesting" as the case may be] that he pass on y.

Plus there are a few times when he's gotten the story very wrong.

I wouldn't dislike it if it wasn't being copycatted to hell. Fanon is tons of fun until the same thing gets beat into the ground everywhere.

To my knowledge, there are absolutely no canon details about Cecil's appearance. Literally all fanart is totally speculative.

I don't mind tattoos, it's just that he's tattooed in EVERY fanart. And it's always the SAME tattoo design (tentacles). Come on, people.

I feel like at this point it's just become a way to make Cecil instantly recognizable, especially since people are starting to cosplay him at cons and such. Without a third eye or arm tattoos you're just a dude, recognizable only by the group you're in. I'm not a huge fan but I understand the appeal.

Which is why I was both excited and wary when one of the interviews I read mentioned they're considering a Night Vale comic. Canonizing Cecil's appearance could be the worst thing ever for the fandom.
