Why would they make robots this hot? I feel like a weirdo for finding him attractive (along with pretty much every Decepticon...)

I'm kind of disappointed by how little straight fanfiction there is for Transformers. I mean, yeah, I like slash, but I like het too and there doesn't seem to be hardly any. At this point I don't even mind if the females are Mary Sues or Original Characters.

Yeah, but I can't even find any with OCs. I miss the days when people would just throw their stories out for everyone to read, no matter how much of a mary sue their characters would seem.

You're not weird, OP. This is actually very common.

And I think there WOULD be more het if there were actually more than a couple female characters - but even then there would not be as much because lbr, the most vocal part of this fandom is fangirls shipping their handsome robot dudes with one another.

Yeah, but the females they do have are awesome badasses, so it surprises me that they don't have as many fans, especially Arcee, who is pretty much the only Autobot I've ever liked. It seems like this in every fandom I get in, there's always a ton of slash, but never any het or femslash. It's disappointing.

I don't really have any more to say...there are still a limited number of female characters. I only watched a little more than one season of TFP, but Arcee is one of only two, besides Jack's mom (a relatively minor character) and Miko, who I found annoying as fuck. That's not a lot to work with considering the deluge of male characters.

Considering all the slash that is anatomically based makes them hermaphrodites, I fail to see the functional difference between het and slash in that fandom. Also, I'm pretty sure fandom considers Starscream for all intents and purposes female.

When it comes to the sexy bits, I don't see much distinction either. But there are characters who are presented as 'female' in the franchise and they get overlooked a lot--mostly it's because there are more 'male' characters, but still. Even if it's just gen, any attention would be appreciated, at least in my books.

It's interesting if you read their backstories, certainly Arcee in the comics. She started off as a mech, he. It implies most/all the femmes did, then a scientist who was very immoral and unethical manipulated them with experiments to introduce gender. Hence why the amount of femmes is tiny-because before that there were only the hermaphrodite mechs

That's only true of IDW. Other canons say otherwise.
Like I said, I agree with you that there's not any difference between mechs and femmes, but a lot of fans don't see it that way, and it becomes apparent in fanwork. Hence why a franchise with robots has slash, femslash, and het. Logic has little to do with it, so it seems.

If I had my way everyone would be with Arcee. She is the best badass.

Other than that, yeah, the uneven distribution of genders (should I call it that??) is the main reason. I don't exactly lament the fact that the fandom is yet to be overrun with OCs, so I can't empathize with you on that one. But it would be great if a few more of the ladies got a bigger role in fanfic, or even the shows, outside of being the token female.

This series is mainly slash but addresses why there are so few femmes and how they came about. There's also several OC slash and het pairings. It's very good if you want a long plotty read, not kinky but plotty with pairngs through in. It's around 800 parts so far.
