I do it, but then I don't claim to be a connoisseur of this particular form of art. As a matter of fact, I'm quite tone-deaf. Music just sets me in the right mood sometimes, especially when I need to do something. Also, I like listening to songs that are related to some historically significant events or groups of people.

This being said, I find your sentiment nonplussing. If somebody is unable to write good lyrics, I say don't write them. When they're already a part of the song, they get judged the way any other part would be.
