Yeah it makes me sad. Compare this to star trek: these artists might have no idea it's a thing, might suck at colouring, might have no audience. They have so little power and they're creating art for a small fandom. Keep it in perspective. tumblr is not actually representative or influential in the grand scheme of things. Why not start out nice at least and focus on positive feedback for fanart you think is brown enough.

I was going to write a big long thing but suffice it to say - I agree, and I think it's so fucking weird the way that it seems that everything HAS to become part of the public Internet conversation discourse.

I'm not sure what you mean by the public internet discourse? You mean how things can be taken out of context so easily and used for points scoring?
