To paraphrase Dara O'Briain about music snobbery: "Oh, you like those sounds in your ear? Well, THEY'RE THE WRONG SOUNDS."

anon, I like music in different languages but that's because I tend to like the sound of music more than the meaning of the lyrics. If you primarily enjoy the meaning of the lyrics then obviously songs that you can't understand will hold less appeal. There's room for everyone, anon!

That being said, if someone won't even listen to a song once then I do find that odd. Even if you don't think you'll like it it never hurts to have one listen.

It's not even that they don't like the songs, it's that they won't even give them a listen because they're not in English. I think the majority of this thread got the impression that I was mad that they didn't like non-English music. I'm mad that they won't even listen once, go "Well, I really prefer understanding the lyrics", and then move on. They just dismiss all music not in English right off the bat. :(

DA

As someone who gets about half their enjoyment of music from the lyrics, there isn't any point for me to listen to songs in languages I don't understand. Why that upsets you is beyond my comprehension. I don't care what music you enjoy and don't see why you've chosen to invest yourself in what music others enjoy.

I guess when you said 'listen' you meant 'listen once' but a lot of people read it as 'listen regularly'.

I kind of get how you feel. One of my favourite artists/ensembles is Libera - they're a boys choir from South London. The majority have unbroken voices and they often sing in Latin. I'm 23 (and I've loved them since I was 15/16) so I am...not their target demographic, probably. A lot of people my age are like "OMG what LANGUAGE is that?" and then when I say it's Latin they say things like "No one speaks Latin!" or "Why don't they just sing in English?" etc etc And then there's the whole "They sound like GIRLS!" thing.

Tried the Mediaeval Baebes? Much, much less 'manufactured by a marketing executive' than the name sounds.

Oooh, sounds like something I'd like. Have you heard the tracks "Wolfen (Das Tier In Mir)" and "Per L'eternità" by E-Nomine?

And they are allowed to do that without you being an elitist idiot about it - if you didn't get that THAT was the problem other posters are having with you, read the comments again. There is a difference between expressing frustration and being a judgemental asshole. Learn it.
