In college (first 2 years) I made sandwiches and brought those, fruit, granolas bars. I lived at home so I tried to bring leftovers when I could.

I switched to a bigger uni in a different city and still did the sandwich/fruit etc thing. Boring, but cheap. Went home for lunch a lot too. I saved leftovers for the next night's dinner so I'd only have to cook every other day.
