Is it really too late to say you're sorry?

it might be. I was a COMPLETE ASS on the internet when I was like 14 or 15 whenever I encountered anyone who liked the pairing that sank my ship, and I didn't even realize it until I was much older. By now a decade and a half has gone by and I can't exactly go and find those people and say I'm sorry.

You don't need to specify "on the internet" or even the "an ass". Just mention you were 14/15 is enough. Everyone is an ass to everyone else, everywhere, all the time until they hit their mid twenties.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-25 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
People are more likely to behave like asses when they are under the age of 24, but not everyone does, and those who do certainly don't do it to "everyone else, everywhere, all the time."

Teenagers and early twentysomethings are guaranteed assholes, learn to live with it. After that then they've got enough life experience under their belts to start learning how not to be.

Enjoy the rest of your teen years, anon.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-25 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Age doesn't make people more mature or less of an ass, sadly. I know plenty of people who are in their mid-twenties or older who are still insufferable douchebags.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-25 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
True, but I can say from experience that the crazy teenager stereotype exists for a reason. I used to become furious whenever, say, someone didn't like my favorite TV show. Thank god that passed.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-25 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, some older might not have grown out of the asshole phase, but someone younger will still be in it.

Yeah, I have a fandom friend who went through pretty much the exact thing that OP did a couple years ago, although this person would openly pick fights and go apeshit crazy. The antidepressants helped, but this person is still pretty unstable and hasn't been a teenager in decades.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-25 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
If it was that long ago, a lot of the people the OP was nasty to have probably changed LJ names, fandom spaces, or plain left the fandom world. So if that's the case, there's little they can really do. But I agree there's no reason they can't apologize to people who they know are still around. Certain people were horrible to me, and I have to admit I'd be open to an apology.

OP here.

Sort of? I've made up with some people, drifted away from others and it's been about two years. I just didn't realise how over the top angry I used to be until it didn't happen anymore.
