Re: Tell me your feelings about tagging for fic

Tag pairings (major) and characters (but only if they are actually in the fic as more than a mention). Also, tag the characters/pairings in order of how much fic time they have.

Tag for kinks (the non common ones) and triggers (the big ones). CHARACTER DEATH SHOULD ALWAYS BE TAGGED. I wish people would tag for unhappy endings, but I understand why some authors don't (if I have a bad feeling, I will scroll to the ending to check).

Maybe tag common plot points so people will search for (kid fic, deaging, dystopia, future fic) and genre (humor, angst, drama, horror).

Then read through the list of characters you tagged, and if it is more than two, cut the tags for everyone under the top two. Read through the list of other tags, and if it comes to more than four, pick the four most important.

I disagree.

No law says you've got to agree. You have the right to be as wrong as you like.

DA

You would know.

What if you're writing Avengers teamfic, though?

How do you pick the two characters?

Obviously you pick the two that have the biggest current shipping following, in order to deceive readers about what they're getting in the hope of attracting a wider audience, or something. Or maybe you have the characters fight to the death, and the last two standing are your "major characters."

I love it when people tag like this and more often than not it makes me more likely to check the fic out. If I don't know what I'm getting into I'm probably just going to skip to the end to see what happens.

(Mostly because I've been burned before and don't see the point in taking the time to read something I'm not in the mood for.)

I too wish people would tag for happy/unhappy endings. I understand why they don't, but still. And yeah, character death should always be tagged or at the very least put in notes. And AUs. If it's an AU please for the love of god that. I am sick of having to ctrl+F "werewolves" to see if what I'm reading is a Teen Wolf human AU.

Yeah, tag for an ending. Do you put that before or after tags for fucking spoilers? I guarantee the assholes that want tags for endings are the friends and fellow dogpilers that will start kicking up shit about spoilers.

Woah woah woah, what's all this anger? I'm pretty sure I was reasonable in my random opinion - I even said I understand why people don't. And yet now I'm a dogpiling asshole kicking up shit? Slow your roll man. Go out and get some sun maybe. Have a drink. Relax a bit.

Don't worry anon. I got your back. I don't want to read a fic and then have it be a downer ending. I once read a Charles/Erik fic, in which the ONLY pairing listed was Charles/Erik, and at the end Erik went to go live with his ex-wife and kids while Erik was alone.

I was like, WTF. The ex-wife was on mentioned once. So fuck yeah, I want to be warned fora downer ending.

No, stupid. A lot of people just don't want to read a story that's going to be a downer if they're not in the mood for it.

You are an idiot.

I disagree about character death. since that's usually supposed to be a surprise, why spoil it? :-/ Say "choose not to warm" or something like "dark themes". Not that I'm against tagging for those things if you choose to, but I don't like to see them myself, or use them for that matter.

Well, if i get a character death fic of a major (non bad guy character), I sure will be surprised. And pissed. That is why if the author chooses not to warn and I start getting an "iffy" feeling, I will read ahead to the end of the story.

CHARACTER DEATH SHOULD ALWAYS BE TAGGED.

Yes. Please. I was reading a fic today that turned out to be a character death fic. Fortunately, I got bored halfway through so scrolled to the end to see what happened.
