That mess? Sure, I can understand hating that.

But I've also read a great Labyrinth/Harry Potter crossover.

And a great XMFC/Inception crossover.

So I'm having a hard time understanding people who say that they hate all crossovers, or that all crossovers are awful. Dismissing an entire genre strikes me as weird.

THIS

really.

Oh god, Inception. That is another of those fucking parasite fandoms that worms its way everywhere like one of those wasps whose larva devour other insects from inside, finally leaving a hollow, broken, shell of a fandom behind it.

I really love this imagery. It's rather fantastic.

However, I believe your sentiment is overblown.

Back in the old days (is 1997 the old days now?) we called them Godzilla fandoms. Suddenly they rear up out of nowhere, smash on through all the stuff going on before, and then vanish back out to the wastes, leaving only the shredded and stomped ruins of fandoms and a few traumatized fans, behind them. If a Godzilla fandom attacks a fandom you are participating in, all you can do is hope when it stomps away into the distance it leaves enough to rebuild, but usually they don't. The old fans have fled in horror, and no new ones want to get anywhere near it.

I don't think all crossovers are awful - just because they're not to my taste doesn't mean nobody should like them - but as I have given them plenty of chances and enjoyed none of them, I'm pretty confident that I personally hate them all. I've read crossovers that were really well-written, that I imagine other people loved, but excellent writing and plotting and whatever didn't make up for the fact that I have zero interest in reading about characters from different canons smashed into the same world.

Fair enough.
