Re: Tell me your feelings about tagging for fic

Some people above mentioned only tagging major characters, and I do hope people would do that. When I try to search for fic about a Marvel character, I come across so many fics where they tagged every single team member of the main pairing and they're mostly just cameos that make the tag useless. And when I try the fandom tag, there aro SO many fics with a wall of character tags but again they are just cameos in a pairing fic.

You don't have to tag every single character that shows up for a second. You don't have to tag every single character in your fandom if they're not focused upon.

Truth. One story had a tag for squirrel girl, and she wasn't even in the fic in question, she was just mentioned by other characters. Even the old pit of voles is heading down the character spam route.

This is something I've never actually been clear on -- when a character has enough screen time to count as a "major" character. For instance, say you write an A/B fic, and halfway through, B has a 2500-word conversation with C, which sets up a C-focused sequel for your story. Do you tag C?

No. You'd only tag for C on C's fic.
