This is not a unique viewpoint unfortunately.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-26 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really that unfortunate I don't think

(Anonymous) 2013-08-26 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Ever heard of don't like, don't read? There's plenty more "serious" fanfic authors for you to enjoy.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-27 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, sadly it is not. If it's something being used just to get you off, then maybe you shouldn't post it to the internet where it will very likely be criticized and reviewed.

For me it depends. There's just some things that irk me and take me out of the moment. It doesn't have to be uber-realistic, but I have to be able to visually imagine it without thinking "well, that doesn't work".

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-26 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is black text over white blank background.]

I don't care how realistic my porn is. I care about whether or not it gets me off. I hate the people's main criticism of a lot of others' fetishes is how unrealistic it is. Your kink is not my kink and that's completely okay. So quit bashing mine because it's unrealistic.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-26 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm all for "don't like don't read". However, that does require authors to give readers a fair warning of what their fic contains. I hate it when I start reading a fic whose summary and tags give no indication of it being unrealistic, and then there are suddenly self-lubricating assholes and the like. Just tell people up front that your fic includes this or that kink or other thing that's not realistically possible, and then people can choose whether they want to read your fic or not.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-27 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
I like this idea.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-27 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
best option

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-08-27 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually want more people to mark their stuff. Partly so I can find my kinks, partly so others who aren't into it can avoid it.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-26 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
a hot fic that suddenly shows an impossible act can be jarring and break the immersion

do you warn beforehand that you know it's not realistic so people know what they are getting into

(Anonymous) 2013-08-27 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't personally fic or draw because I lack the skills, but I definitely would warn for my kinks. I know not everyone is into them, and then it makes it easier for the people who ARE into it to find it.

unless it's A/B/O. Cause that's too close to furry

Re: Fully support this...

(Anonymous) 2013-08-27 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
This is a weird sentence. Does this mean you support people with a furry kink, but not people with the A/B/O thing? :D

Re: Fully support this...

(Anonymous) 2013-08-27 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
A/B/O sounds like a TV channel.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-26 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
... your kink is unrealistically written porn? I'm not sure I quite understand. "Your kink is not my kink" doesn't sound like it's the issue here, the issue is that you don't write porn very well in other peoples' estimation.

If someone writes an anal scene on the beach involving a virgin, wet sand as lube and a 13" strap on and everything goes flawlessly, that's not just unrealistic, it's simply poor writing. If I pointed this out, I'm not disrespecting your kink, I'm pointing out that it reads like it's written by someone who has no idea what anal sex is like, and apparently they're also clueless enough to think that wet sand makes a great lubrication.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-26 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
IDK, I think it would depend on the kink. Some of the more out-there stuff is unrealistic by its very nature.

I guess i'm wondering what you mean by 'unrealistic'. Do you mean...S&M kind of sex where a regular human can be hung by their ankles and whipped for hours with no crippling side effects?

Or do you mean, unrealistic in that a regular person can have sex with a blue whale and not die, or....what, exactly?

Me, i don't need step-by-step instructions about how the condom was put on or a lecture on 'safe sane consensual' every time somebody blindfolds their SO with a silk scarf. But it really depends on the fic/kink.

Hmm, yeah, I think it depends. It's one thing if you write a fic where a dude has super stamina and is still going off like a geyser after the fifth time he comes, but it's another thing if you write a fic where a guy sticks his dick into a girl's uterus.

+10000000000k

Who cares what OP means by "realistic"???????

I've seen some assholes flaming authors over dumbass technicalities that are not even the point of the story, and you can correct them in your own fucking mind. Or PM the author and tell them "hey, you know, this doesn't happen this way. Did you mean it to be so different?"

Just gtfo if something doesn't go as you wanted it. No need to get people down over your own fucking pretentiousness.

Sometimes people can share the same kink and have very different ideas of it. Like, say they're both into xenokink, but Person A wants there to be human breasts and/or a human penis on the nonhuman to see the appeal, whereas Person B would be turned off if the nonhuman had incongruously human features. "Your kink is not my kink" doesn't apply in that case - rather your kink is their kink, that's why they're viewing the same porn, neither one is an outsider who shouldn't have been browsing for that kink in the first place if they didn't want to see aliens/werewolves/Cthulu getting it on.

I fully support this.
Like, I can get what's hot about some realistic porn and it can be aesthetically pleasing, but if I want to fap, nothing and I mean Nothing gets me off like badly written, unrealistic, no care for biology or physics porn.
And that's ok.

I have a knotting* fetish and a distension fetish. I live in the world of unrealistic and get turned on mostly by crazy-ass hentai where I know full well the woman would be dead and/or the cock could never have gotten insider of her.

Carry on with your unrealistic kinks, anon, and never let anyone tell you you're wrong!

The thing that really puts me off is really technical porn - stuff that is so busy describing what they're doing, that it totally misses how they're feeling, emotionally.

I actually rather have a scene that is spare on details of actions, even glossing over actions entirely in favour of rich descriptions of the emotions involved. I can happily imagine who does what when I can feel the emotion properly.
