i wish i didn't hate abc so much that it makes me not excited about this show.

Also, stupidly ruins the meaning of Coulson's death and how it brought the Avengers together. Sometimes pandering to fans sucks.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-26 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Even if the fact that he was still alive was implied by the movie itself? I'd have thought that would be the thing to ruin it.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-26 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
where was it implied in the movie?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-26 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
NAYRT

It's been a while since I saw it, but I think Fury or Maria Hill implied that Coulson's death was conveniently timed to bring the Avengers together?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-27 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
They totally did! Plus what sarastark said about the locker.

I watched the movie way after the hype, so I was surprised to find out that apparently most of the fandom missed all that??? Or maybe I only noticed because I kept an eye out for it after people mentioned how in denial they were.

shruuuugs

They totally didn't! They only implied that Fury put the blood on the cards, nothing else.

Joss himself said he was still alive.

Well, there was the whole thing where Coulson's cards were in his locker, not his jacket.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-27 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Either Fury made copies instead of ruining VINTAGE cards, either Coulson will make him invent a magical blood-on-vintage-cards remover.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-26 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
you didn't see the scene with coulson's bloody hand sliding down the limo window, and then just the middle finger rises back up

(Anonymous) 2013-08-26 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
i...think you are joking....

(Anonymous) 2013-08-26 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)

I am so excited for this IDEC.

lol. Not really.

It still brought the Avengers together.

XD

But tbh, I recall Joss saying he didn't want to kill Coulson in the first place, so I'm not mad at all.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-26 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
While it ruins the meaning of his death, it serves to underline Fury's grade A jerkiness. So that's at least something.

It does not "ruin the meaning of Coulson's death." Coulson's death - real or not - did exactly as it was meant to do, and there's really no UNdoing that. For better or worse, the Avengers came together. And being all of a sudden not dead (however that comes to be) doesn't lessen the fact that Coulson was clearly ready and willing to put his life directly on the line.

Getting critically wounded in the line of duty and living is no less heroic than getting critically wounded in the line of duty and dying. It's just the way the dice rolled.

Stupidly ruined the meaning of his death.

Are you assuming he thought he wasn't actually dying? We've got confirmation that, he did die and was brought back somehow (god only knows how) so... does that really negate the sacrifice or the emotional impact of the moment? He died. He gave his life to try to protect people. Whatever handwave tech/magic/medical wazoo that goes on does not actually take that away. If you watch that scene, he knows he's gone. He's done. And he's made peace with it. Whatever happens after that, does not change that moment.

Or would you like to tell any real life heroes that have been brought back that their sacrifice doesn't mean shit anymore either?

I'm glad it's on ABC because I'll actually be able to watch it. My cable package is pretty bare.

I'm just going to agree with the people who've said Coulson's death lost no meaning. That's a pretty shitty thing you've said.
