Re: Pet Adoption
we recently lost one of our cats. it's rather rare for our home to have less than four cats at any given time but one by one they're passed away, and our recent loss has left my oldest cat by herself. she's 22 i think (it's kind of intriguing that she should be the last of our kitties haha) and all she does is sleep, but she's been crying a lot since our other one died. not really sure why, she could be looking for him or is just more active now that he's gone bc she didn't like getting too close to him. it's also possible she's got a thyroid issue or something (since apparently cats meow a lot when this happens too??) but i wonder if maybe she just wants a companion. a lot of cats regardless of age tend to prefer a social environment, breed depending.
the current owner of that cat should have medical information to give you. if not, sometimes vets will perform tests without a charge (or much of one). so you might want to ask your local vet if that's something they'll do.
Re: Pet Adoption
(Anonymous) 2013-08-27 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)I'm sorry to hear about your cat. That's really rough :-(
Me and the ex had adopted a companion for the current cat a couple 3 years ago, and they got along well, but she died about a year and a half ago. Since the ex was around all the time, though, my cat never got lonely. This is a pretty new thing for him - he was raised until he was 8 with his sister who ended up adopted out to a different family (no one wanted my cat because he was fat and male - their loss, tbh).
I'm just shy about getting a new pet without vet records, and the guy seems a little cagey about it - like he expected that I wouldn't ask for that kind of thing. I don't want to agree to her only to take her to the vet and find out that she's got something transmissible to other cats.
Le sigh.
