Lol, I always thought part of the fun of Harry/Draco was the author coming of for elaborate character redesigns for Draco that managed to justify and redeem his basically inexcusable behaviour in the books. Which is actually pretty difficult, which is why my favourite flavour of H/D ended up being Post-War fics where Draco as an adult has either paid for his crimes or realised he was on the wrong side and was an insufferable git to boot, while Harry remains skeptical, and also as dense as he always was. And I'd say some of those are close enough to plausible for the characters not to take you out of the story.

Came here to say this! Instead of looking for "IC" fics, I looked (and still sometimes look!) for fics that deal with post-canon, where the author can flesh out the characters. There's a lot to be said for "that asshole matured" as a way to believably adapt a character.

*nods*

I tend to enjoy post-canon stories more overall because it's interesting to me to extrapolate where the characters might go after the events of the story. I really like stories that redeem Draco (for whatever value of redemption) but don't turn Draco into a saint. I especially enjoy stories where he forges friendships with good guys who aren't Harry--like Ron or George or Luna or Neville.

Any post-series recs? I was pretty open to multi/inter shipping in fic but Harry/Draco I could never quite get my head around. But maybe as adults.
