Mr Rogers made me incredibly angry as a child because he would take off his outside shoes and put on inside shoes (WTF?) that were exactly the same as his outside shoes, then take off his outside sweater and put on his exactly the same inside sweater. I couldn't watch his show because of that. It still makes me a little angry, to be honest.

But by all accounts, he was a wonderful person and I hope his memory and his show live on forever.

That made you angry? That seems like an odd emotion to have regarding something like that.

I was a bit of an odd child. I also didn't understand that some people wear shoes indoors and that he wasn't breaking the rules with his inside shoes.

maybe he's the kind of person that goes to a sale and buys like five of the same thing, so he has a bazillion identical sweaters and pairs of shoes, so he has his outdoor sweater and shoes, and his indoor sweater and shoes, so he doesn't drag in dirt and stuff

(I don't do the indoor/outdoor shoes, but it does seem practical to keep your house's floors a bit cleaner for a bit longer)

sa

plus the psychological angle of, "Now I'm really inside" once you change clothes or "Now I'm really ready for the world out there"

Actually, with the sweaters at least, they were all made by his mother.

In fairness, the sweaters he would put on 'inside' the house were actually made by his mother.

It's been forever since I've watched the open of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, but I'm pretty sure he went from a leather-soled dress shoe to a rubber-soled casual canvas shoe. These are different shoes.
