But why should they feel obligated, if they're not interested?
There's absolutely no reason for it.

Seriously - there are only so many hours in a day. Why spend them "tasting" media that you're not really interested in, when you could be doing something you know you'll enjoy?

Agreed.

I resent anyone who feels I'm obligated to humor someone on such a minor matter.

Social obligation is a real thing, and it's something that people feel sometimes in situations like this ["I already agreed to this..."], or, in the case of going to a theater to see a movie, simply not having a ride home if you don't go with the group can be a motivator. Also, there are some people who are really shitty if you don't grin and bear it when they pull crap like this - believe me, I'm in a very good position to know since I'm related to one.

That said, personally, I'd have just gotten up and said "Hey, I'd really love to hang with you all, but this movie is *really* not my jam, and I have -insert something that needs to be done ASAP-. See you guys later!" and left. So.

Man, I have work guilt that sounds a lot like that social obligation guilt. XD If someone asks me to switch a shift/take a weekend/stay late, unless I have a (to me) valid reason for saying no, I find it REALLY hard to say no, even if I don't want to or I'm just tired.

And I think sometimes I get taken advantage of for that reason, because they just think, "Oh well I know she's not going to say no if I ask her, so as long as I ask her, it's as good as done."

I need to grow a pair. XD
