You go through OCS, Officer Candidate School, if you have a college degree. They used to come and talk to my engineering classes my senior year to recruit us.

Yeah, I imagine they'd be looking at the engineering students in particular.

I don't know how much you know about their selection process or anything but I'm majoring in a language (not a particularly valuable one at this point in time, it's not Arabic or anything) and I'm also majoring in political science. Do you think I'd have a difficult time being considered for OCS? I just figure they're taking science/engineering degrees above others.

I can't speak on their behalf, as it's been 4 years since I graduated. Your best bet is to go to your local recruiting office and see what they have to say.

I also went to university in the South near a military base and my major was civil engineering so they definitely pushed for us to consider it.

DA

The Army has translators in hundreds of languages and it would really just depend on what language you majored in and if they have a need for it. If they don't, you can always wait 6 months and check again. Definitely talk a recruiter though because they're the ones that have real-time access to what jobs are open.

Just don't let them try to talk you into something else. I know that sounds obvious, but you'd be surprised how easy it is for those guys to twist things around and make you think you're signing up for one thing and then you find out down the road it's something entirely different. And don't buy their crap of "You can go to OCS after you serve your first enlistment contract" because that's rarely true for anyone and is never true for anyone with a 4 year degree (earned prior to enlisting) because of age caps.

I'm majoring in Japanese. I'm familiar with my university's ROTC program and the captain who was instructing my military science courses stated that my language of choice was lower on the list of preferred languages. :[

But yeah I'll talk to a recruiter soon. I talked to one about 2 years ago but that was regarding the ROTC program. I'll be graduating sooner than I'd be able to complete ROTC so that's out of the question now lol. I should talk to another.
