Anyone would be a better Uhura than the nonentity they got in the remake. Of course that applies to most of the roles. Nonentities, douchebags, and Simon Pegg.

Why make that assumption before anyone has actually seen him in the role? Yes, he's acted really badly in some things, but he also has acted really well. He has talent.

He has talent as a director, and he has talent in "angry young man" roles. He has no talent in a leading man role, and no talent as a middle aged actor.

I just don't think we can assume that he'll do badly until we see it. He was given the role for some reason, whatever that is.

He was given the role for the reason of generating headlines and "buzz" a shock jock move to drive publicity for the movie. It worked, true, but sadly that is sacrificing actual suitability for the role on the altar of PR.

We can look at his past performances in similar roles. Which shows he cannot act in those roles. Acting is not like investing, in acting past performance is a reliable indicator of future performances.
