I still have trouble reading analog clocks.

So do I, anon. Don't feel bad!

Say, are you bad at math? Or have trouble telling left from right off the top of your head? Because apparently, all of those things can be related.

I'm fine with clocks, but boy do I still have problems with left and right, especially when giving someone directions. If it's for something important, I always have to take the time to do the hand thing.
starphotographs: Seriously, I grew up with these merrily demented drawings and poems and I like to think they made me who I am today. (The Loser)

Oh god, I'm glad I've never really been asked for directions. I'm actually really good at finding my way around, but not in a way that I could explain to anyone else.

The worst is when random cars used to stop and ask me for directions as I was walking home from school. I lived in Hawaii, and - while my town had no beaches or landmarks whatsoever - the town right next to us did, so there were always lost tourists coming off the freeway.

I think I might have gotten one or two even more lost... It didn't help that we had local names for things that weren't on any map or sign.

aryt

It's more the switch between knowing that it's 3:30 and saying it's 3:30. Like, if I look at an analog clock and I need to be somewhere at 3:45 and it's 3:30, I know instantly that I need to be somewhere in fifteen minutes, but if someone would ask me the time, it'd take me a bit. I have the same problem with reading out numbers.

I'm alright with math, I guess, but I do sometimes have trouble with left and right.

I'm the same way! I prefer analog clocks because I can visually chop time into pieces and understand the relationship between "now" and "soon" better, but I can't always tell you what "now" and "soon" are.

And I'm crap with left and right, but I think that's more because I'm left-handed.

I can only read analog clocks if they have actual numbers (sometimes roman numerals). Dots or other symbols, I have to stare for a long time, and if it's a blank face, I'm helpless.

I have trouble reading analog clocks even after going thru engineering school, where all rotation is described in terms of clockwise and counterclockwise. :) There's just something non-intuitive to me about numbers on a circle.

I couldn't even do it until I was in middle school and I still have to count in fives to remind myself.

Also I have sing to alphabet song in my head when I'm organizing things by letter or I get them mixed up.
