I just think he is the better actor. He may be crazy, but he is a damn good actor.

I read somewhere that the reason that the love story in any Tom Cruise movie falls flat and feels kind of weird is because the person that Cruise is so obviously interested in is the movie/audience, and he focuses so hard on trying to please them that it detracts.

Which is to say, I agree he works incredibly hard, crazy or not.

I think I read that, or a similar article. It was something about how by making himself obviously interested in pleasing and being endearing to the female lead, he's actually endearing himself to the audience, and the lack of real chemistry makes it easy for the viewer to imagine themselves taking the female lead's place (since they 'have the connection'.) The thing I read contrasted Cruise to Hugh Jackman, who gets pretty decent chemistry with his female leads, and so his romantic movies fall a little flat for the audience, despite him being more of a 'dreamboat' than Tom.
