I'm sorry about your mother, OP. That being said, it surprises me that that fandom has lasted this long. I'm sure you could find something else, though, if you give it a chance.

Why does it surprise you that the fandom has lasted this long? Lots of shows/books/movies are long since over and still have active fandoms.

DA

And even more die off quickly once the source material stops being made.

I think that a lot of the shows/books/movies that are "over" but which have active fandoms still USUALLY have related or tied-in canon products that are still coming out (or which have recently come out), though. There hasn't been any new Stargate of ANY stripe for quite a while, feels like. It's different from something like Star Trek: TOS, which has spin-off series STILL coming out, or Transformers, or Lord of the Rings, or Digimon, or um that's all I can think of rn but you can see what I mean.

I mean, it's not like Stargate Atlantis fandom is really DEAD, though. It's just gone really really quiet and slow, for as far as I can tell. It's effectively dead for anyone who requires things like formal fic exchanges or regular fic output or a decent ongoing level of discussion in some fandom forum somewhere in order to consider themselves part of a fandom... but I'm sure there will always be some really devoted fans who keep the faith in their own hearts, and will for as long as they're still alive!!!!

There's still fic being written every day, although not nearly as much as in the heyday. Which makes sense. There are tumblr's, LJ's and Facebook pages devoted to Stargate and the people who were associated with it. One sad thing, next year is Creation's last soley Stargate Chicago con. Truly the fandom has shrunk but it's still there percolating.

I really don't want to.
