I mean, it's not like Stargate Atlantis fandom is really DEAD, though. It's just gone really really quiet and slow, for as far as I can tell. It's effectively dead for anyone who requires things like formal fic exchanges or regular fic output or a decent ongoing level of discussion in some fandom forum somewhere in order to consider themselves part of a fandom... but I'm sure there will always be some really devoted fans who keep the faith in their own hearts, and will for as long as they're still alive!!!!

(Anonymous) 2013-09-01 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)I just don't understand why they're calling it quits this year. It bugs me because the decision to end it seems so arbitrary and without good reason. If the people running it are tired of doing so, then hand it off! It's always a popular event and it keeps the fandom going - why end it now?
I have this same issue with a few other fandom fest type activities (Paperlegends, I'm looking at you!). There would likely be plenty of people willing to take over and keep these events running! Why stop now?
At least there's still SGA_Santa! And the SGA Reverse_Bang.

I'm so disturbed that this is the last McShep Match. My mother died a few months ago and fandom let's me get out of my head for a while.
I'm scared that this fandom will disappear and it'll be just me and my grief. I shouldn't care this much, but I do.

I don't think the fandom will ever die. There will always be at least a few people writing in the Gateverse.
Now that I have finished my dissertation and had my baby, one of my plans is to write more fanfiction. I'm almost finished with an SG-1 fic, and SGA is definitely on my list of fandoms to write in again.

That was my thought exactly. I knew if I didn't finish before Fiona got here, it was just never going to happen. Plus, I was at the end of my allotted time anyway.
SGA rec thread
Here are my SGA recs: http://lunabee34.dreamwidth.org/tag/recs:+sga
Re: SGA rec thread
I don't know any newer stuff, but I listened to Fayjay's podfic of Gypsies Tramps and Thieves by Auburn a few months ago and if podfic is your thing I cannot recommend it enough.
Re: SGA rec thread
I haven't really listened to a lot of podfic, mostly because I'm rarely in a situation where I'd be able to listen to something that's very long. I'll remember your rec, though, for the next long car trip I have to take. Thanks!

(Anonymous) 2013-09-02 06:29 am (UTC)(link)I will miss this match too, as SG is now my primary fandom and it seems to be shrinking a little more every day. Love/d these guys!
And hooray for Joe Flanigan (kind of, it's John Sheppard) making it into the secrets for a third day in some fashion.
Still carrying the torch for McShep!

(Anonymous) 2013-09-02 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)I just stayed up till 5 AM reading McShep fics on Friday, actually, heh. They're on FFN but it seemed to me like the fandom's doing ok for itself, considering the show's been gone for years.
