Yes. My mother said she thought for a while that I was actually secretly going out with my best friend.

Background: I'm ace and never have been in a relationship (and don't plan to) - I never said this quite so directly but I hinted at it. One day, she got into her old spiel about wanting grandkids and everything and I told her she would have to talk to my brother about that because I definitely don't want kids. Then, after lots of talk about how relationships are great and how children can help you find purpose in your life (and how the daughter of a friend was miraculously cured from her bipolar disorder after having a kid *hint hint nudge nudge*) she basically got down to "not being interested in sex and relationships isn't a thing and not normal" and that she would even be happy if I was a lesbian instead. Everything is better than not having a relationship and sex in her eyes.
