In the UK, certainly in recent years, people tend to be absolutely unconcerned about whether actors are gay or not. People can be as public or private as they wish about it. It would not affect the casting of a family orientated show like Merlin one iota. Why would it? Doctor Who caters for the same sort of audience and has had gay actors and gay characters aplenty without anyone making a big deal of it at all.

The OP is actively wishing for bigotry where none exists to fuel her fantasy that the actors from Merlin are not merely secretly gay-and-fucking but secretly gay-and-fucking because they fear repudiation by the showrunners and the viewing public. That's (a) fucked up and (b) a serious case of projecting her own societal values onto a society that does not share them. Judging by the phraseology of the secret, I'll take a wild stab in the dark that her own society is the US.

I am not sure about the nationality because the stuff they say they want already exists and it's American fans that post that stuff all the time. Maybe they're from someplace where English isn't the first language but they watch/read a lot of American media and that's why they phrased things the way they did? Or I guess they could be American and just don't know anyone in the fandom and so never see that stuff.
