The angler fish you see with huge scary soul-devouring teeth? Those are all females. Male angler fish are tiny and pathetic and their only purpose in life is to find a female and latch onto her. The two fish then fuse into one, with the male becoming a parasitic lump living off the female's blood supply and fertilising her eggs.

Firefly squid live off the coast of Japan. Sometimes they're washed up en masse on beaches, where their glowing blue bodies create an amazing effect at night.

The world's oldest goldfish lived for over 40 years.

I knew the first one! And, if I may add, the female does not necessarily merge with just one male.
