You could always care less. It doesn't mean anything, because there will always be a lower amount of caring, unless you literally couldn't care less.

My interpretation has always been that when you say that, you're saying that you care so little you don't even care enough to use the correct saying

I always thought people who said it were mangling "Couldn't care less" which is the first and primary way I heard it. Sort of like people who type "could of" instead of "could've".

I've...never heard people say it that way, except online. Most people I've heard use it say "I couldn't care less".

It's supposed to be couldn't care less, people who say could are just idiots.
