You can be both, sure, but some atheists are not both. They say point-blank that it's a fact that supernatural forces don't exist because [insert various reasons]. Those are the people - usually the loudest versions, on the internet in particular - agnostics might be trying to differentiate themselves from.

You can be both, sure, but some atheists are not both. They say point-blank that it's a fact that supernatural forces don't exist because [insert various reasons]. Those are the people - usually the loudest versions, on the internet in particular - agnostics might be trying to differentiate themselves from.

Nope. So-called gnostic atheists and New Atheists (who are currently most vocal) are two different things. New Atheists tend to take the pragmatic position after Russell that in the absence of proof, disbelief is the most reasonable position.
