sooooo is all it takes to be called a racist now being *interested* in a white character? Because these rules are changing all the time and I just can't keep up.

Meh. It used to bother me this line of thinking. But I just chalk it up to people bullying other people into liking what they like using that line of reasoning. Because you can't go, "That character sucks. Stop liking that character!" and expect people to listen. But if you twist it to, "If you like that character, you are a racist!" perhaps more people will change their mind.

Thing is, when more and more people are using this tactic all it does is make people jaded to being called a racist. Too much, the boy who cried wolf. So, no, if someone uses that line I can't help but think, "I'm sorry. You must have confused me for someone who gives a damn about your opinion." I've become jaded.

hell yeah spoiler

(Anonymous) 2013-09-02 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Am I allowed to be as sad that Wash died in Serenity as I was that Book died, or does mourning that white character make me a racist fuck, too? I'm just trying to understand the logic.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-02 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Duhhhhhhhhhhhh. Only non-white characters can be mourned. All the "white character mourning" points went to Coulson. You are out of points. /s

I don't think they're bothered by the mourning. More the shippers who happily shove Mako to the side and insist Chuck should somehow survive so he can be with Raleigh and they can have their hot white guy sex.

To raise a point though, I have noticed more people talk about Wash's death than Book's.

Tbh I feel more cheated over Book's death because we never got to know his story.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-02 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Is this Pacific Rim? Can someone confirm? Or not?

People like him enough to try to pull a Coulson? Why? He was my least favorite character and I honestly am happy that he died.
nightscale: Starbolt (Mako Mori)

[personal profile] nightscale 2013-09-02 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't dislike him but I also didn't care that he died, Stacker on the other hand? DDDD:

And echoing an anon above, I would have been more upset at Herc dying.

Just as an aside, can I express my internal joy that 'to pull a Coulson' is a phrase that's actually understandable? :D

(Anonymous) 2013-09-02 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously. Chuck was awful and only got not-awful long enough to help save the world.

Wait, is Pulling A Coulson a thing now? Sweet!

(Anonymous) 2013-09-02 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, I didn't even know anyone cared about him. His dad was way more compelling as a character.

The only reason I was sad that he died is because Stacker died with him. 8(

(Anonymous) 2013-09-02 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Same. I'm glad it was him and not his dad. His dad going would've been predictable, also.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-02 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Chuck was a waste of space whose sole valuable contribution in the movie was that he died so someone more interesting could live.

Stacker, however, I would bribe whatever powers necessary to somehow survive.

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-03 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE PACIFIC RIM

[Picture is Chuck Hansen? from the movie Pacific Rim. He is a young man with light skin, short brown hair and wearing a green armored battle suit. He looks surprised and tired, with his eyes looking reddened from irritation/red-rimmed.]

He's DEAD. Fandom needs to GET THE FUCK OVER IT. Chuck Hansen is dead. He was in a nuclear strike zone under thousands of tonnes of water. He. Is. Dead. The writers have explicitly confirmed his DEADNESS.

STOP. HARASSING. THE. CREATORS. IN. FUCKING. TUMBLR SPEAK. WITH STUPID QUESTIONS. ON WHY HE HAD TO DIE.

BECAUSE THAT'S THE STORY YOU RACIST CUNTS.

Stop spamming questions on his love life. His virginity. And all your stupid "but why did our blond asshole character have to die it ws so unneeded and a cheap copout".

Because. ALL. but ONE of the secondary characters is dead. And I can't help but notice you only care about the caucasian ones. YOU STUPID FUCKS.
