Social Justice ≠ Social Justice Warriors.

This.

I kind of hate the term. I've been active in IRL political activism of various sorts for over a quarter century and fighting for actual good in the world (online or off) is not the same as having Tumblr flamewars.

I can't vouch for anyone else, but I know when I use it, I'm not referring to actual activism. I'm talking about people who care more about flamewars than actually fighting flames, i.e. injustice. Or it's about having a chip on your shoulder. You can believe in a cause and actively promote and stand for it; or you can use a cause to show how wise/good/progressive you are. Not only is that annoying, it takes away from actual issues.

I should add I never use the word "social justice" to mean anything but doing actual good, though - just "social justice warrior."

Oh, I know. I use it too (but then my IRL activist friends don't know what I'm talking about).

I just wish there were a better term that didn't conflate SJWness with social justice. Like slacktivist, except a) it's not precisely the same thing, and b) it's the name of one of my favourite bloggers.

The one who is reading the Left Behind series?

The same. His political writing and theology stuff is also quite good.

I know a good term for it. "Internet bully".

+1

Truths.

You can be all for social justice, without being one of those labeled as SJWs and seen as...extreme.

Agreed. The world is a jacked up place in need of balance through social justice. However, people who wear the self appointed SJW badge bug the begesus out of me with their ridiculousness.

I thought that was common knowledge here...

Clearly not since they get conflated every single time SJWs come up. (Like in the OP.)

Yeah...every time there's a discussion about it though everyone is hasty to point it out. You'd think we'd have all gotten the memo by now. -_-
