Following on tumblr

(Anonymous) 2013-09-02 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
So I was following someone on tumblr, except they were ALWAYS posting about "oh this is going to reduce my follower count" or "waaah I lost 4 followers for that post" and an irritatingly ridiculous amount of judgment and pity requests for following.

....and i just unfollowed them because I was sick of it (+ not entirely sure they lose as many as they claim to do)

...and now they've made a post about losing another follower and are in bed crying over it.

JFC. gaining/losing followers happens, stop being so controlling over your follower numbers and maybe you wouldn't lose so many.

Tell them that they lost you as a follower because they're always whining about losing followers

I'm tempted, but they'd probably explode over that and I would feel compelled to go back and see if they've replied and uurrrgh

on the otherhand, I want to (figuratively) slap sense into them. I'm pretty sure they're older than me too, so around the 25s

I'd suggest just following and unfollowing like once a day for a week, but if they're crying on their bed about it, they may not be the most stable person to handle it.

I used to follow someone who would post things like "If you don't like/ agree with what I'm saying then unfollow me" and then complained every
time people unfollowed her.

I can see why you no longer follow them.

Yeah, agree with you OP. If it's going to cause too much drama, I'll generally just add their url to my tumblr saviour blacklist, so there's that option.

I don't understand why anyone cares that much, or why they think it's okay to be rude about it. TBH there are probably others that want to unfollower her too, but are afraid of her reaction. I don't blame you for going through with it.

I feel bad for those who are scared then. I don't think she's ever named names, but I also felt a bit hesitant over it because obviously I'm going to upset her (and generally don't want to hurt a person) - but I'm over it on my dashboard, off it goes! Followed her for fandom pics, not posts about follower counts* >_>;

*she'd do the milestones ones too, but it'd be "I hit 200 followers!" "oh no my followers are 196 those 4 must be assholes" "yay 205 followers!" "bla bla followers followers"

(rolling eyes so hard over all that. so glad I finally unfollowed her)

I used to follow someone like this and about a year ago they started smearing people who unfollowed them. They're also the only BNF for my tiny fandom and spend all of their time on tumblr, so they were usually the first person to post something new (pics, ep descriptions, etc). A couple of us who were sick of their behavior started posting the new stuff even they had posted it first. They couldn't contact any of us because by then we all had them blocked and disabled anon messages, so they made a sock to hassle us for posting things they'd already posted. We'd just say we didn't know because we had them blocked. After about a month, their posts were getting less than half the notes the same posts we made after them did. I checked their blog several times while all this was going on and they had a lot of posts, sometimes only 5 minutes apart, saying they were crying over how they were being bullied and we were all terrible people and oops there go another 7 followers. I always thought the follower/unfollower counts were inflated (they never once posted a pic of their follower count and were only in our little fandom) and things just didn't add up. But I do believe that a bunch of us ignoring them did make them cry. I feel kinda bad in the sense of I don't want to make someone cry, but I also feel good in the sense that our tiny fandom was being crushed by a bully and we found a way to stop that from happening without becoming bullies ourselves.

oh god anon, that all sounds horrible D: I hate it when people try to bully others.

I recently had my own drama where someone reblogged a post of mine with no comment but some rude tags, so I told them their tags were rude. I didn't expect a reply but they exploded, changed their username, deleted the reblog, sent "anons" at me, made several posts on their tumblr about how I had "no right" to call them out on their tags, ranted about this is why they hate people/hate fandoms, that you're not meant to see the tags, apparently lost followers over it and got lots of angry

It was rather baffling actually.

tl;dr There are some really crazy people on tumblr.

It was woah.

...uh. Been awhile since I departed the "hive of insanity" (thank you secret-maker from today for that) but, if you've unfollowed the person, how are you seeing their reaction posts?? Only people you're following show up on your dash, unless someone's reblogged it, which takes the crazycakes to a whooooooole 'nother level. If you see what I mean.

OP

haha it's okay - I went over to their main tumblr page because I was curious to see if they had made a post about it. They're no longer on my dash XD I might see them in fandom tags in the future tho, because sometimes they would tag a complaint with fandom tags (idk why)

As ff.net is the Pit of Voles, I tend to think of Tumblr as the Pit of Weasels.

Re: Following on tumblr

(Anonymous) 2013-09-03 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
How do people KNOW when they lose a follower? Tumblr doesn't notify you like it does when you gain one.

Re: Following on tumblr

(Anonymous) 2013-09-03 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
The follower count is shown in a panel on the side of the dashboard. So it doesn't tell you who unfollowed you, but you can see when the follower count goes down.

I stopped following someone on Twitter for similar reasons. Well, that and she was always complaining about her friends getting engaged and "rubbing it in her face" (read: mentioning it at all, ever) until she got engaged/married and started talking about it nonstop.

Here's what you should do

[personal profile] chardmonster 2013-09-03 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Continuously follow and unfollow them.

Send them on a downward spiral of self discovery.

Re: Following on tumblr

I used to follow a couple of people who would always go "oh, I got unfollowed, PEOPLE CAN'T HANDLE ME TALKING ABOUT JEWISH HEROES" (because they would talk a lot about Magneto from First Class). I unfollowed during the speculation about the upcoming Days of Future Past X-Men movie because I was fucking tired of them both going on about how THIS IS GOING TO BE AWFUL THIS IS NOT WHAT I WANTED, and of course, "LOL I GOT UNFOLLOWED PEOPLE CAN'T HANDLE ME TALKING ABOUT JEWISH HEROES". No, I got tired of your whining about something that hasn't even happened, I don't give a fuck if you want to talk about how Magneto is a complex character.

Christ, I don't even notice when I get unfollowed.
