I can't tell you what to do, but when I replaced my first car when it was 15 years old (don't remember the mileage) it was because while the repairs weren't necessarily more costly than buying a new car, the problems that needed fixing were starting to come at the rate of at least one a year and I had no idea when something might suddenly die on me. Having the security of knowing that I probably wasn't going to have my car die in the middle of nowhere or have to go several days without a car while it was in the shop (no doubt at a time when I actually needed a car) became something of real value to me. I bought a new car about 7 years ago and to this day I have had no maintenance issues. I had monthly car payments to make for several years because I couldn't afford to pay cash, not even for my cheap car, but since I paid it off, the only non-routine expense I've had was for a patch on a flat tire.
