Hmmm... Gosh, it sounds rather familiar, but I just can't place it. Could it maybe have been something by Evan Dahm? (Rice Boy was my first thought, but I checked and that didn't match.)

If not, perhaps you could try whatwasthatone on livejournal? They're great for that sort of thing.

I keep thinking that, but the art style was a bit more... I don't know, dry? More like the kind of thing you'd find in old Western comics, very stylized, but a bit more in the "realistic" side of things. I want to say more mature/serious, but I'm not sure those terms fit. And there wasn't a bit of color there. It was kind of slow paced and with some narration too, I think? I don't even remember if it had dialogue or not, but I'm leaning towards no.
