As an ESL, I drives me insane that Americans apparently have done away with quite a lot of irregular verbs. In school, we got drilled to never get one wrong and then recently, I was watching Green Lantern. And the last damn lines were "Of all the Lantern's who have ever worn the ring, there was one who's light shined brightest."

Shined? Come on!

(Yes I know it's the preferred version today but when you spent a lot of time memorising those things, it's kind of jarring.)
