I don't care if you change names, and remove some elements. You wouldn't have thought of it if it wasn't for that other story.

That's right, did you hear that Marvel? DC? Stop it right the hell now! Elementary cease production right this second, you too Sherlock, and Joss don't make me come over there! And who do you think you are, Akira Kurosawa, ripping off Shakespeare like that!

Well, considering West Side Story and a legion of others, he probably thinks that he's in pretty good company.

The problem with EL James isn't that's how she did it, it's that she did it badly. Cassandra Clare's isn't that she did it badly (though, yes, she did) it's that she plagiarized, bullied, and downright terrorized some people in the process.

Deep down, for most writers, I think there's a universal fear. It's not that someone will steal our babies and mistreat them. It's that someone will look at what we've created, sweated and bled over, and not only think "I could do it better" but turn around and actually do so.
