'Socially awkward' in what way, if you don't mind me asking?

My vent, on a possibly related note- I hate how abusive/predatory behavior and harmless not-passing-as-mentally-normal behavior tend to get lumped together into a sort of generic 'creepy', on both the feminist or otherwise socially conscious side and the socially awkward and/or nerdy people side. They're extremely different categories of behavior and failing to distinguish them doesn't benefit anyone.

It benefits anyone trying to avoid people who behave abnormally? I don't care whether they're harmless or not, I'd just like a blanket word for "do not want near me," and creepy works.

I'd have tried to put it a bit more tactfully, but this is probably what a lot of people would say (if they're being honest.) Part of the problem being that it's not necessarily easy for the average person to judge by observation whether some folks are harmless or not, and you can't exactly go up and inquire.
