This might be an odd question... but I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with corsets? Specifically, the purchasing of. How does sizing work, where are reliable places or websites to buy them, just... anything. I'm utterly baffled.

also, are corsets always expensive? Because when I went clicking around, the prices were... pricy, and I don't have the largest budget, so.

Any help would be appreciated. ♥

Find a Renaissance Faire, if you have them in your area. You'll be able to try it on and be sized by experts who know what they're doing, and the quality is usually pretty good.

As far as cost, it depends. If you're looking for a sturdy garment that will give you real support, especially if you're not tiny, then yes, it's going to be pricy. If you just need a costume piece that doesn't need to meaningfully hold anything up or in, then you can probably get away with cheaper.

Seconding the Ren Faire, it's where I got mine. They were very helpful about it.

It also depends on what kind of corset you're looking for. An overbust is obviously more expensive than an underbust. Depending on what you're looking for, you might want to start with an underbust to see how you like it.

http://www.timeless-trends.com/ <--this site is a popular place to go, and has a big selection and a good return policy. But yeah, corsetry costs a lot of money. I figure whichever sites you choose to buy on will have sizing charts that tell you how to figure that-all out?

I recommend spring steel boning. Plastic tends to dig into the ribs -- especially in the sides and under the bust. It gets really painful really quickly. It does make it more expensive, but again with the intention: what do you want it for, how long do you want it to last.

The prices likely also have something to do with whether it was made as part of a batch or is one of a kind; machine made or hand sewn.

I bought mine on Amazon for $30. I find that they run on the small side and I had to completely change out the ribbon to almost twice the original length.

cheap "fashion" ones will have plastic boning and will get you through a day at the ren fest (or a fun kinky night). proper waist training ones have steel boning and will run at least $100.

I have large breast and omg the SUPPORT it gives you is wonderful my shoulders never felt so free. and always wear something underneath to protect your skin - cotton underdressing or a slip.

damselinthisdress - they have an etsy and a website. They do customized and sell pre-made as well.

If you want something well made and tailored then yeah, it's usually going to cost you for the work that goes in to it. Which is why I haven't gotten one yet, I can't justify the cost to myself when I have bills. :
